Do I have to take a license test or driving test to obtain a KY drivers license? Kentucky

New Driver Checklist
Yes, in most cases you'll have to pass a written, vision, and driving test.

However, if you recently moved to Kentucky, you can bypass each license test as long as you have a valid out-of-state drivers license - and you handle the driver license transfer within 30 days of your move. If your license isn't current, though, you'll need to pass a vision and written test.

KY Written Test

To pass the written test, you must answer at least 80% of the questions correctly. Many people find taking a practice test beforehand to be beneficial. These practice tests can be found online through numerous providers.

You don't need an appointment for the written or vision tests.

KY Driving Test

The Kentucky State Police administers the road tests. Appointments can be made by contacting your Circuit Court Clerk's office.
