MD Driver License Fees

When applying for a Maryland drivers license you'll need, at one time or another, to pay the following license fees:

  • Type 1 permit fee: $50
  • Type 2 permit fee: $30
  • Driver license fee: $45

Applying for Maryland Driver License

To apply for a MD driver license you must schedule a road test appointment with the MVA by calling (888) 212-4709. On the day of the test bring:

  • Your MD Type 1 or Type 2 permit.
  • A working vehicle with registration card.
  • A licensed driver.
  • Proof of driver education (if applicable).
  • 60-Hour Practice and Skills Log (if applicable).
  • Three-Hour Alcohol and Drug Education Program certificate (if applicable).
If you pass, you'll receive a provisional license valid for six, 12, or 18 months (contingent on past driving experience). During this timeframe you must remain traffic violation-free to become eligible for a full driver license status.
