Will traffic school help keep my driving record clean?
Cleaning Up Your Record
Traffic school will clear your driving record of the citation you just received, but it will not keep your driving record totally clean. It depends on whether or not you have other citations or driving-related convictions on your driving record.- If you’ve just received a citation for a minor offense like a moving violation, most states will allow you to remove the violation from your driving record after you attend traffic school.
- States will usually allow only one citation to be dismissed by traffic school for a specified period of time, often 18 months or more.
- Upon successful completion of traffic school, the citation will be removed permanently from your driving record.
Also, if you have previous citations on your driving record, they will remain on your driving record even after you attend traffic school for you current citation. So, while traffic school does not totally keep your driving record clean, it will prevent a current citation from ever appearing on your driving record.
That’s good news if you’re trying to keep your insurance premiums down or want to hide a citation from your employer.
