OR Driver License Renewal Procedures

In the state of Oregon, you can renew an expired drivers license by completing the following steps, provided the license has not been expired for more than one year:

  1. Present your expired license to your local DMV office.
  2. Complete the license renewal application, to include the medical questions section. If you are afflicted with a medical condition that impairs your driving skills, your application for a drivers license will be refused.
  3. Present proof of your full name, your Social Security number, Oregon residency, identity, and date of birth to your local DMV.
  4. Pay the $40 renewal fee.
If your license has been expired for one year or more, you must pay the original application fee of $60, in addition to the following test fees:

  • $5 written license test fee.
  • $9 driving test fee.
You must pass the written test, the vision exam, and the driving road skills test to obtain a new license after one year.

Reinstate License if Suspended

If your drivers license is suspended, you must reinstate it, as opposed to renew it. The fee for reinstatement is $75.

Penalties for Driving Illegally

Driving with an expired or suspended license could result in a traffic ticket, vehicle impoundment, and a marked increase in auto insurance rates.

If you do not know if your license is suspended, contact the Oregon DMV Headquarters at the following address:
