Tennessee Driver License Training Requirements

Minimum drivers education required is 50 hours; 10 of those hours must take place at night.A licensed driver must accompany teens in the motor vehicle that they practice driving in. Training courses are available for teens and their parents at the DOS website. Safe driving and the impact of driving under the influence are areas covered in these non-mandatory online courses.
Before teens take their license test they must submit a signed certification from their parents or legal guardians. The certification affirms that the teen practiced driving for at least 50 hours.
Information teens should focus on is located in the TN driver’s manual. Driver manuals are available at DOS driver licensing station. Manuals can also be downloaded off the DOS website. Taking a practice test from a reputable drivers education company is also a good idea.
TN permits teens to receive drivers ed through a licensed driver training school. The course instructor will need to sign the training certification at the end of the course so the teen can the driving test to receive their TN driver license.
