How do I apply for a drivers license if I am relocating to Vermont? Vermont
Relocating to Vermont and Becoming a New Resident
You must obtain a Vermont drivers license within 60 days of moving to the state and establishing full-time relocation; or, obviously, sooner if your out-of-state drivers license expires during this timeframe. To apply, visit your local DMV office with:
- Your valid out-of-state driver license.
- Proof of Vermont residency.
- Proof of identity and day and place of birth.
- Your Social Security number.
- Cash or a check or money order to pay all applicable fees.
NOTE: If your out-of-state drivers license has been expired for more than one year, you will be required to take the state's written and driving tests. See below for details.
Prepare for the VT Driver License Written Test
To prepare for the state's written test, study the Vermont drivers manual. You can obtain a copy from any DMV office, or by downloading from the DMV website.
After pouring through the manual, you'll then want to take at least one practice test. These tests abound online, allowing you to take as many tests as needed until you feel test-confident.
You must pass the written test before you can take the driving test.
Take the Vermont License Test
Call Central Scheduling at (802) 828-2085 for a test appointment. When you arrive for the test, have:
- Another licensed driver.
- A working vehicle.
- Your insurance identification card.
- Your vehicle's registration certificate.
- Proof of VT residency.
- Two proofs of identity.
- Cash or a check or money order to pay all applicable fees.
