That's a good question - and you need to find out the answer before you make the trip to your nearest DMV location. Otherwise, you could be in for a frustrating experience.

In some states, each branch handles all driving license and motor vehicle tasks. This includes issuing driver's licenses and state IDs, titles, and registrations, and handling testing and renewals.

However, many states divide these responsibilities. The most common split involves locations that only deal with driver license/state ID matters, and ones that take care of titles/registrations. Some states conduct their testing at different locations, too. Additionally, many states are now opening satellite branches that only handle a few DMV tasks.

It's easy to learn what's available at your nearest branch. Just go to your state's main driver's license or motor vehicle site. You should see a list of branches indicating the type of tasks each branch handles. If not, make a quick phone call to the branch and get your answer.
