WA Drivers License Test Requirements

You will also need to pass three tests: vision, knowledge, and driving.

Knowledge Test

Study the state's drivers manual before applying for your drivers license or learners permit. The knowledge test consists of 25 questions and you must answer at least 20 correctly to pass. All questions are based on content inside the drivers manual, your prime study source. You can obtain a copy from any DOL office, or by downloading from the DOL website.

After studying the manual, you'll also want to take a practice test or two.

Driving Test

When you arrive for your license test (appointment only), you'll need to provide:

  • A vehicle in good working condition.
  • Proof of car insurance.
  • Another licensed driver, if applicable.
After passing you'll be issued a temporary license. Use this until your permanent drivers license arrives in the mail within about 10 days.
