WI Driver License Fees

When applying for a Wisconsin drivers license you'll to need to pay one or several of the following license fees:

  • Instruction permit: $35
  • Driver license test: $15
  • Original probationary driver license: $28
  • Original regular driver license: $28
DMV service centers accept cash or checks for fee payment. Credit cards are only allowed for online and phone transactions.

Other Wisconsin Driver License Requirements

In addition to the fees listed above, you'll also need to provide the DMV with the following documents when applying for a WI drivers license:

  • Proof of identity.
  • Proof of name and date of birth.
  • Proof of your Social Security number.
  • Proof of legal presence.
  • Proof of Wisconsin residency.
In addition, you must pass vision, knowledge, and driving tests.

To prepare for the knowledge test, you'll need to study the DMV driver license handbook and take some online practice permit tests.

An appointment is not necessary for the knowledge test, but you will need one for the driving test. When you arrive for driving test, you'll need to provide a working vehicle that legally insured and registered, and, depending on your situation, another licensed driver.
