How do I apply for a WY drivers license if I am younger than 18? Wyoming

New Driver Checklist
This varies depending on your age.

But, if you're a teen who’s 17, you can pretty much apply for your Wyoming drivers license in the same manner as if you were 18. You don't have to first hold an intermediate license or drivers permit (sometimes called a learners permit) or participate in a driver training or drivers ed class. (Keep in mind, though, that completing an approved drivers education course may allow you to skip the driving test.)

Here are the basics for what you need to do.

WY Full Drivers License Process (17 Years Old)

  1. Study the Wyoming drivers handbook to prepare for the written license test.
  2. Take a permit practice test or two to further prepare (optional step).
  3. Go to a driver exam office.
  4. Show acceptable proof of identity (such as a birth certificate).
  5. Have a parent or legal guardian sign the Minor's Release Form.
  6. Pass a vision test.
  7. Pass a written test.
  8. Pass a driving test.
  9. Pay the $20 driver license fee.

It's also possible to obtain an intermediate license when you're 16, or a full drivers license when you're 16 1/2 years old. But, each carries its own conditions. Contact the WY DOT at (307) 777-4800 for more information, or refer to the state's driver handbook.
