Do I have to take a license test or driving test to obtain a WY drivers license? Wyoming

New Driver Checklist

Wyoming Driver License Testing Requirements

In most cases, you'll have to take some sort of driver license test to get your WY drivers license.

You can sometimes escape both the written and the driving test if you have a valid drivers license from another state. But, that's up to the driver examiner at the DOT exam station. The examiner will make the decision from personal observation, medical information, vision information, and other reasons.

Additionally, you may not have to take the skills test at an exam station if you show proof of successfully completing an approved drivers education class.

Other than these reasons, though, you must be prepared to pass the knowledge and road tests.

Other WY License Test Matters

You won't need an appointment for the written license test, but you may need one for the driving test. Those planning on taking the road test at the Cheyenne office must now have an appointment. Those taking the test at other exam stations should call to find out if an appointment is necessary for the office in question.

Practice tests can be a good way to get ready for the written test (after, of course, studying the Wyoming drivers handbook). You can find a practice test online through a variety of providers.
