Do I have to take a license test or driving test to obtain a DC drivers license? Washington DC
District of Columbia Driver License Test Requirements
To obtain a Washington DC drivers license you must pass three tests: vision, knowledge, and driving.Vision Test
If you fail the DMV vision screening, you will be required to obtain an eye report from an eye specialist of your choice. If you require glasses or contact lenses to pass the screening, this will be reflected on your drivers license, requiring you to wear them when driving.
Knowledge Test
Study the DMV drivers manual to prepare for the knowledge test. All test questions are based on information addressed in the drivers manual, including road emergencies, parking rules, and road sign identification. You can obtain a hardcopy from any DMV office, or by conveniently downloading from the DMV website.
After studying the manual, you'll next want to take some practice tests, which flourish online. A practice test is the perfect study aid, featuring questions similar to those on the actual permit exam, allowing you to accurately assess if you're test-ready.
The knowledge test consists of 20 questions. You must answer 15 correctly to pass.
License Test
You must make a driving test appointment. You can do this online, via the DMV website, or by calling (202) 727-5000. When you arrive for your scheduled test, you must provide:
- A legally registered and insured vehicle.
- A learners permit, if applicable.
- Another licensed driver who is 21 or older.
