Normally, when you purchase a vehicle from a dealer, the car registration and titling is taken care of for you. However, in case it wasn't, or if you bought your car from a private seller, here's how to proceed.

AR Vehicle Registration Process

Keep in mind that the registration and titling processes are intertwined. In fact, you'll fill out the same form for both – the Arkansas registration/title application form.

You'll need to present proof of insurance at the state revenue office. You also must present proof that the county auditor assessed the vehicle and that you paid your personal property tax.

If you’re relocating to Arkansas, bring along your out-of-state vehicle registration, too.

Registration fees vary by the type and weight of the vehicle, but won't cost more than $35. Titles cost $5.

No Inspection Needed

Unlike many states, Arkansas doesn't require any emissions testing or safety inspections for standard registrations.

Thankfully, the air quality within the state is better than many areas of the country that regularly deal with high levels of smog and other harmful pollutants or emissions. So, you don't need to be concerned with passing a smog check before registering your car.

Other AR Register Car Questions

If you're relocating to Arkansas – or even if you're a lifelong resident who has never registered a vehicle – you might have additional questions regarding car registrations. If so, contact the DFA at (501) 682-4692, or stop by a state revenue office.
