Getting an Arkansas duplicate title can get a bit complicated, especially if there's a lien involved. But, here's the basic process.

AR Replacement Car Title

You'll need to go to a state revenue office. You must complete an application for a duplicate title form (available on the DFA site). If more than one owner is listed on the original title – with the names being joined by "and" – both owners must sign the duplicate title form.

Bring the vehicle's license plate number, title number, vehicle identification number (VIN), or car registration certificate with you.

The replacement title costs $5, and you should expect at least a three-week wait before receiving the title through the mail.

AR Rush Title

If that's too slow for you, apply for a rush title at:

Charles D. Ragland Taxpayer Services Center
Room 1040
1900 West 7th
Little Rock, AR 72201

Rush titles are issued within three-to-five business days. If there's a lien on your title, you can't apply for a rush title.

What About Titles with Liens?

This is where it gets more complicated.

If there's a lien on the title, the lienholder must complete a lien release form (available on the DFA site). The duplicate title will be sent to the lienholder, not to you.

Now, if a lienholder is listed on the title but you've paid off the lien, you must prove it by submitting a lien release letter. Or, the DFA can contact the lienholder listed on the title. If the lienholder doesn't respond within 10 business days or declares the lien has been fulfilled, the replacement title will be issued to you.

Other AR Title Transfer Matters

Have other questions about replacing a lost title? Want to know about a bill of sale, or how to transfer titles between relatives?

For these and other title issues, contact the DFA at (501) 682-4692, or stop by an Arkansas state revenue office.
