Replace Your CO License Plates

To replace a lost license plate or plates, visit your county DMV office and submit:

  • A completed Affidavit for Lost and or Stolen License Plates/Permits. This can be downloaded from the DMV website.
  • Proper identification, including your current car registration and Colorado drivers license.
  • Cash or a check (only a few CO DMV offices accept credit cards) to pay the license plate fee. Fees will vary, depending on license plate type (standard, vanity, special interest).
The DMV recommends contacting the police if your plates are lost or stolen. This will protect you should your plate or plates illegally appear on another vehicle.

Replace Your CO Car Tags

If the license plate sticker that affixes to the corner of your rear plate becomes lost, you'll need to order a replacement. You can do this by visiting your local DMV office with:

  • Your CO driver license and current vehicle registration certificate.
  • Cash or a check to pay the tag fee.
Be sure to have your vehicle registration certificate while driving. This will serve as proof of registration if stopped for a missing registration sticker.
