Replacing Car Registration

If your car registration is lost or damaged, visit your local HI DMV office or satellite City Hall to get a duplicate copy.

Note that:

  • You must bring your ID.
  • You’ll be required to fill out a form and pay a registration replacement fee, which is around $10 in Honolulu. The fee varies among counties. You will not have to pay a fee to register car again, just a replacement fee.

Replacing Plates and Tags

If your license plates or vehicle registration tags (stickers) were lost or damaged, you will also bring your ID to a DMV office.  Additionally:

  • Bring the remaining license plate.
  • Bring your registration certificate.
  • Report theft to the local Hawaii police department.
