How do I obtain first time vehicle registration in Idaho? Idaho
Perhaps the most important aspect to consider is that you'll need to get a vehicle title before you can register your car in Idaho.
But, you're allowed to apply for your vehicle registration right after applying for your title; both transactions take place at a county assessor's office.
Just a note: If you purchase a car through an Idaho dealer, the dealer will handle the title transaction.
You'll also need to make a decision on what license plates you want. Many varieties of standard plates are available at the county assessor's office, while specialty plates need to be ordered by mail or fax. Talk to your county assessor's agent for more information.
And, even in those cases, there are plenty of exceptions. For instance, your car must be at least several years old to be required for testing. And, hybrid and electric cars are exempted.
See the Ada and Canyon County smog/emissions inspection sites for details.
