Idaho Emissions Testing Information

Is your vehicle registered in Ada or Canyon County?

If not, you don't have to worry about an emissions or smog check; if it is, then you likely do.

Each county lists its own exceptions to testing. In Canyon County, if your car is five or less years old, it doesn't need to be tested. In Ada County, the newest four model years are exempted from testing. But, both counties list other less common exemptions – such as hybrid and electric vehicles – on their emissions testing sites.

The maximum costs also vary between the two county programs. In Canyon County, the highest fee is $11; it's $20 in Ada County.

If your car fails to meet the smog or emissions standards required, it's vehicle registration can be revoked. However, if you can show you've spent at least $200 towards repairing the pollution problems, you may be eligible for a waiver.
