You can order your personalized plates or vanity plates at a BMV branch office. Just complete the appropriate application form and submit it.

For standard Indiana license plates, you have room for up to seven letters and/or numerals plus one space. For specialty plates (meaning those with a different background), you have room for five.

Keep in mind that although you can place your order at any time, custom license plate issuance is every April. You'll need to renew your combination each year to reserve it for yourself. And, of course, you must also renew your car registration every year, too.

Personalized plates cost $48 annually; this is in addition to the standard registration fees.

Ordering a Personalized Plate Online

Don't want to go to the BMV branch?

You can try ordering your custom plate online. Visit the BMV site, and set up a myBMV account, if you don't already have one. While online, you can test various letter and number combinations to see what's available, and then place your order.

Other IN License Plate Questions

Indiana has a host of specialty plates, too. Learn more about how to order these plates and the costs involved by consulting the BMV at (888) myB-MV411 or visiting the agency's site.
