Replacing Lost Kansas Titles

Replacing a lost title is necessary for a title transfer (see below). If your car title has gone missing, you can apply for a duplicate title by visiting your DOR office and:

  1. Providing a completed Kansas Manual Application for Duplicate, Secured or Reissue Title. This can be downloaded from the DOR website. Be sure, when completing, to include the exact mileage. Any missing information will void the application.
  2. Providing payment for $10 duplicate title fee.
NOTE: You also have the option, if you so desire, to mail the car title application in to your county treasurer.

Completing a Transfer Title in KS

If you're selling, you'll need to assign the title to the buyer. If there's no room for the sale price on the title, you'll need to fill out a bill of sale.

If you're a buyer, you'll need to provide your local county treasurer with:

  • A completed title application.
  • The assigned title.
  • Proof of insurance.
  • Payment for title and registration fees.
