Kansas Titles for Rebuilt Cars

Okay, to obtain a salvage title you'll need to provide the DOR (your county treasurer) with:

  • A completed Salvage, Non-Highway or Non-Repairable Affidavit (Form TR-13). This can be downloaded from the DOR website.
  • The current title or, if applicable, the registration receipt if the vehicle has a lien and the title is being held electronically (a bill of sale is not required).
While applying, you'll need to collect a one-day Inspection Permit. This will allow you to legally drive your vehicle to a Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) inspection station for a rebuilt salvage inspection.

When you arrive for the inspection, bring receipts for all major component parts, or a photocopy of the car or cars from which the parts were obtained. You'll also need the salvage title application receipt and cash or check to pay a $15 salvage title inspection fee.

The KHP will affix a rebuilt salvage vehicle sticker on your car if it passes inspection. In addition, you'll be handed an MVE-1 form.

Next, return to your county treasurer with:
