Lost Car Tags and License Plates

If your Maryland license plate(s) goes missing, you'll first need to notify the police. This will protect you in the event your plate was stolen with the intent of using it for illegal purposes. After obtaining a police report, visit your local MVA office with:

  • A completed Application for Substitute Plates/Stickers/Duplicate Car Registration Form (VR-009).
  • Your drivers license, or a copy of it if you submit by mail.
  • Payment for $20 duplicate license plate and sticker.
You can also submit by mailing to:

    Motor Vehicle Administration
    Registration Renewal Section
    6601 Ritchie Highway, N.E.
    Glen Burnie, MD 21062

NOTE: Be sure to include your drivers license number and phone number on your check.

Replace Missing Vehicle Registration Sticker

If the car registration sticker for your license plate falls off, you can order a duplicate by following the same steps as detailed above. Cost: $5.
