The exact steps you’ll take will depend on whether your car tags were lost or stolen, or if they just became damaged.

Lost or Stolen License Plates

If your Mississippi (MS) license plates are stolen or lost contact your county tax collector office. Ask a clerk at the tax office for Tag Form 76-903 (this form is not available online for download).

Bring this form with you to a law enforcement agency so that you can report the missing license plate. Both you and a law enforcement agent must complete the form.

Damaged License Plates

Should you need to replace your MS auto plates because the original plates or car tags are damaged, simply visit the county tax collector office. Surrender the damaged license plates or car tags to the agent at the tax collector office.

Replacement License Plate Fees

Pay the $10 license plate replacement fee. You will pay this fee whether the license plates were lost, stolen or damaged. If you only need to replace your auto decals, the fee is only $2.50.

The MS Department of Revenue (DOR), the agency that processes each vehicle registration or car registration in MS, will find you in violation if you drive your vehicle without a valid license plate. Therefore, to avoid receiving a traffic ticket, visit a county tax collector office and have missing plates, car tags, and decals replaced as soon as possible.
