Whether you are buying or selling a vehicle, there are steps you'll need to take in order to complete a title transfer.

Nevada Title Transfer if You Buy Car

You must transfer the title within 30 days of the purchase date. To do so, visit your local DMV office with:

  • The assigned car title with your signature.
  • A bill of sale only if the sale price is not included on the title.
  • Your Nevada Emission Vehicle Inspection Report, if applicable.
  • Your Nevada Evidence of Insurance Card.
  • Proof of a Vehicle Identification Number Inspection, if applicable.
  • A completed Application for Vehicle Registration (VP-222).
  • Payment of title and registration fees

NV Title Transfer if You Sell Car

Here's what you need to do:

  • Properly sign-off on the car title
  • Complete a bill of sale and keep it for your files. This will protect you should the vehicle be abandoned. Unless the purchase price is not included on the title, the buyer will need a copy of the bill of sale.
  • Remove the license plates.

Titles, Used Cars and the Importance of Ordering a Vehicle History Report

When shopping for a used car, be sure, before writing a check, to order a vehicle history report for the vehicle you're eyeing. These can easily be ordered online, providing you almost instantaneously with an in-depth report. With it you'll be able to check the car's complete vehicle history, including service records, number of owners, emission test results and much more.
