If you cannot locate your car title, it's in your best interest to order a duplicate. Even though you may not need it today, or three years from now, you'll eventually need it for when it comes time for a title transfer.

Apply for Duplicate Title in NV

You can only order a duplicate through the DMV if the vehicle was last titled in Nevada. If your vehicle was titled in another state, you'll need to order a duplicate through that state. If you're unsure of the title's place of origin, contact the DMV's Records Sections at one of the three following numbers:

Las Vegas area: (702) 486-4368
Reno/Sparks/Carson City: (775) 684-4590
Rural Nevada/Out of state: (877) 368-7828

If you qualify for ordering a duplicate title through the NV DMV, here's what to do:

  • Complete an Application for Duplicate Nevada Certificate of Title (form VP-012).  This can be downloaded from the DMV's website. The application must be notarized or witnessed by an authorized Nevada Vehicles Representative.
  • Write a check or money order for the $20 lost title fee. Or $35 if the vehicle is not physically located or registered in NV.

You can either drop off at your local DMV office, or mail to:

    DMV
    555 Wright Way
    Carson City, NV 89711

The DMV will mail your duplicate title in about six weeks.

NOTE: A bill of sale is not required when applying.
