If you purchased your car through a New Hampshire dealer, you'll have little to do with the title transfer as the dealer will handle the paperwork.

However, if you bought your car from a private seller, here's what to do.

Applying for a NH Title

Make sure you fill in any required information on the vehicle title, such as your name and address. Both you and the seller must sign your names and date the title. See to it that the odometer reading is listed on the title. (On a separate note, you should obtain a Bill of Sale from the seller.)

Then, take the title to a town clerk's office for processing. You can complete the vehicle registration at the same time, and pay all the applicable fees.

If all goes well, you should expect to receive your new car title within three-to-five business days.

Buying a Vehicle History Report

A vehicle history report (VHR) can be an important tool in the buy car/sell car process. As a car buyer, you want to know exactly what you're getting for your money; a VHR can help you determine that.

As a car seller, showing prospective buyers a VHR can hasten the sale - and perhaps lead to a higher sales price. By providing the VHR, you can alleviate some natural concerns a buyer might have, and demonstrate that you're not trying to hide anything about the car.

Other Questions About NH Titles?

Titling a car can sometimes be a confusing process. So, if you need some guidance, call the DMV Title Division at (603) 271-3111.
