When it comes to ordering personalized plates or vanity plates, you have three choices.

And, although you can't order a custom license plate online, you can check its availability through the OPLATES.com site. A personalized plate needs at least four characters and no more than seven, and costs $50 annually (in addition to the standard registration and renewal fees).

Here's how to order:

In Person

Visit a deputy registrar branch and complete form BMV 4705 - Request for Special License Plates. You can download the form from the BMV site and fill it in before heading to the branch office.

By Mail

Fill in form BMV 4705 - Request for Special License Plates and mail it - along with your payment - to the address listed on the form.

Phone

Call (800) 589-8247 to place your custom plate order between 7 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

How Will My Vanity Plate Arrive?

No matter which method you choose - in person, by phone, or by mail - you'll receive your license plates in the mail.

Other OH Specialty Plates

Besides personalized plates, the Buckeye State offers a wide array of specialty plates with different logos or backgrounds.

You can create your own message with these specialty plates, too. But, specialty plates cost more than standard plates. See the BMV site for pricing information and ordering details.

More Information

Confused by all your choices when it comes to ordering personalized license plates? That's understandable. Call the BMV at (614) 752-7800 for additional information about license plates or car registrations.
