Inspection Requirements for Car Registration in OR

The purpose of a smog check is to determine the amount of smog your vehicle produces. In the state of Oregon, an emissions inspection is required for vehicles in the Portland and Medford areas only.

Vehicle Registration

If you live in an area that requires an emissions inspection, you must present of passing an inspection to register your vehicle. You must also present the following documents and fees:

  • Your registration renewal notice, or a completed Application for Registration.
  • Proof of vehicle insurance.
  • The applicable registration fee ($86 register car renewal fee or $172 first-time registration fee) in the form of cash, a personal check, or money order.
