In the state of Oregon, a title transfer must be completed whenever vehicle ownership changes hands. If the car title has been lost, damaged, or destroyed, you can apply for a duplicate title at your local DMV branch, the same place where you handle your vehicle registration matters.

Obtaining a Duplicate Car Title in OR

When you visit your DMV, be sure to bring:

  • A completed Application for Replacement Title, including the signatures of all owners.
  • The $77 passenger vehicle title fee, in the form of a personal check or money order payable to the Oregon DMV.
The fee for replacing a lost title for vehicles weighing more than 26,000 pounds is $90. The replacement fee for a salvage title is $27. A bill of sale is not required for a replacement title, but it is required for the completion of a title transfer.

DMV Locations

The DMV website provides a complete list of DMV locations. You can also apply for duplicate titles by mailing the application and required fee to DMV headquarters:

OR DMV Headquarters
1905 Lana Ave. NE
Salem, OR 97314

Stolen Titles

A stolen title is considered “lost” only if you have no idea who might have taken the title. If you know or suspect the person in possession of the vehicle title, your application for a duplicate title will be denied.
