But, most cars need to pass a safety and emissions inspection every two years in order to keep their registration valid.
The tests cost $39, and you'll receive a two-year validation sticker (to be placed on the car's windshield) if you pass them all.
For the safety and gas cap inspection, you must make the necessary repairs to comply with safety and emissions standards. For the emissions test, you must make the repairs to correct the problematic issues. However, for emissions repairs, you may qualify for one of three types of waivers, depending on the circumstances.
