How do I replace lost or damaged TN license plates, stickers, tabs or tags? Tennessee
If your license plate goes missing, you must, regardless of the reason, apply for a replacement. Otherwise, if you attempt to drive, you will be ticketed, regardless if you provide proof of valid car registration.
Take this information to your local County Clerk, along with:

Before applying for a replacement license plate with the Tennessee DOR you must first file a report with the police. This will protect you should the lost or stolen plate be used for illegal purposes. You will need, as verification, the police agency, the presiding officer's name, and complaint form (police report) number.Take this information to your local County Clerk, along with:
- A completed Application for Duplicate/Replacement License Plate or Decal.
- Proper identification (drivers license, vehicle registration).
- Payment for replacement license plate. Fees contingent on the plate type.
