UT Registration Renewal Online

This is perhaps the easiest way to renew your car registration.

Just visit the Express Renewal section of the DMV site. Have your renewal notice (with your PIN), applicable safety and emissions inspection certificates, and a major credit card near you for quick reference. Only the registered owner should enter the information into the system.

After following the instructions provided, print your temporary registration certificate. You can use this until you get your permanent registration and stickers in the mail in about two weeks.

UT Registration Renewal On-the-Spot

This option allows you to renew your vehicle registration at authorized inspection stations scattered through Utah. You'll pay for and receive your registration card and stickers at the station. Some stations charge a small convenience fee for this extra service.

UT Registration Renewal by Mail

There's always the trusty mail option. Grab your renewal notice, applicable safety and emissions certificates, and your check payment, and send them all to:

Utah State Tax Commission
Motor Vehicle Division
210 North 1950 West
Salt Lake City, UT 84134

Expect to receive your registration and stickers in the mail in about two weeks.

UT Registration Renewal In Person

To renew the old-fashioned way, go to any DMV branch office with your registration renewal notice, applicable safety and emissions certificates, and payment for your fees.

UT Registration Renewal Fees

Registration renewal fees vary according to a number of factors.

But, the amount you owe should appear on your renewal notice. If it didn't, you can call the DMV at (800) DMV-UTAH and request your fee information.

UT Smog Check/Safety Inspection

All cars in Utah (except brand new ones) must pass a safety inspection, which has to be successfully completed within two months of the renewal date. Cars with model years less than eight years old must be tested every two years; model year vehicles older than that must be tested annually.

Meanwhile, cars registered in Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, and Weber counties must also deal with emissions testing. Cars at least six years old must be tested every year, while cars newer than that get tested every two years.

But, brand new cars and vehicles made before 1968 are exempt from the emissions test. The smog check must be completed within two months of the car's registration date.

Your car must pass the required tests in order for you to renew its registration.

Other Register Car Issues

Call the DMV at (800) DMV-UTAH for information about other car registration matters.
