Utah's smog check or emissions testing program only affects vehicles registered in Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, and Weber counties.

UT Smog Check Details

Brand new vehicles, motorcycles, and cars with a pre-1968 model year are excluded from emissions testing.

Cars with a model year that's six years old or older must be tested annually; cars newer than that only face an inspection every two years.

You can complete the test at authorized inspection stations. These stations choose their testing fees, but you can expect to pay roughly $25-$30; that includes county inspection surcharges.

You must show the emissions certificate to the DMV at the time of the vehicle registration. If your car doesn't pass the inspection, you'll need to address the troublesome areas and bring your vehicle into compliance with emissions standards.
