To get your salvage title/rebuilt auto title, your car must pass the standard Utah safety inspection and the emissions inspection (the emissions test is required only if your car is registered in Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, and Weber counties).

Once your car passes the applicable inspections, take the inspection certificate(s) to a DMV branch, along with your salvage title, completed title application (TC-656), and payment for the $6 fee. (The bill of sale isn’t needed.)

If everything checks out, you’ll be issued a branded or rebuilt auto title.

Vehicle History Report

If you’re in the market for used cars, purchasing a vehicle history report (VHR) can be a wise investment.

These reports are loaded with information about a car’s past, such as the number of owners, title transfers, and severe accidents, along with other useful data. Having this knowledge can help you make a more well-informed decision about a car’s value, and the likelihood of trouble down the road.
