Is trailer registration required?
|
|
Yes, in most states. Check to see if you need to register your trailer by viewing this guide.
Even though trailer registration may be required in your state, sometimes not every type of trailer needs to be registered. So, you might want to ask your state's motor vehicle agency before heading to the branch office. In most cases, the trailer registration process is similar to that of a car registration.
Also, if you have to register your trailer, there's a good chance you'll need to title it, too. You can usually handle this at the DMV at the same time.

This isn't entirely correct. In Kansas, a trailer does not need to be registered if the weight of the trailer and boat is less than 2,000 pounds. If greater than 2,000 pounds, the trailer must be registered.
