If, for whatever reason, your WA car title goes missing, you should act on replacing it sooner rather than later. Even though, depending on your situation, you may be years away from selling or donating or trading the car in, ordering a duplicate title now will spare you any delays or inconveniences when it comes time to complete a title transfer.

Replace a Lost Titles With the DOL

To replace a lost title, you'll need to:
  • Complete an Affidavit of Loss. This can be downloaded from the DOL's website. All registered owners must sign the application and all signatures must be notarized. If the title has a lien, the application must be signed and submitted by the lienholder.
  • Proof of identity, if applying in person (a drivers license and car registration will suffice)
  • Payment for $9 duplicate title fee and $12 subagent fee if you don't apply with your county auditor.

You can either apply in person or by mailing to any DOL office. Expect duplicate title to arrive in the mail in about 10 weeks.

NOTE: A bill of sale or proof of car registration is not required when applying.
