How do I order personalized plates and vanity plates in Wyoming? Wyoming

You can apply for personalized plates or vanity plates – or "prestige plates" as they're called in Wyoming – by following these steps.

Ordering WY Prestige Plates

Start by downloading Form MV-416, the Application for Personalized Prestige License Plate(s). Then, complete it and sign it, and make sure to include your license plate combination preferences. You'll have to give a brief explanation about the meaning of your choices.

Then, send the custom plate form along with your $30 payment to:

Motor Vehicle Services
5300 Bishop Blvd.
Cheyenne, WY 82009-3340

WY Prestige Plate Details

Generally, you may choose up to four letters or a combination of four letters and Arabic numerals; the application provides complete details on this.

Before your combination can be approved, the WYDOT must make sure it's not already in use, and then determine if it's suitable. You may call (307) 777-4709 before submitting your application to learn if your license plate combination is available.

Expect to receive your approved custom plates at your county treasurer's office in about four-to-six weeks. You must pay any registration fees you owe before getting your license plates. If you already have plates, you must surrender them before taking your new plates.

The $30 fee should reserve your plates through 2017, as long as your vehicle registration remains valid.

WY Specialty Plates

The state offers a variety of specialty plates – meaning plates with different backgrounds. See the WYDOT site for license plate options and ordering information.
