What is the state requirement for auto insurance in Kansas?
According to the Kansas Department of Revenue’s Division of Motor Vehicles, the state operates under a "no-fault" auto insurance system. This means that your insurance company must make payments for injury coverage regardless of who is found to have caused the accident.
If you do not have appropriate insurance coverage to provide proof of financial responsibility, you can be charged with a Class B misdemeanor. If it is your first offense, this will result in a fine of up to $1,000. If you ignore the fine, you can be sentenced to up to six months in jail and given high-risk status.
