All vehicles registered in Tennessee must, by law, have car insurance protection. Legal compliance requires the following amounts of liability insurance coverage:

  • $25,000 for bodily injury or death of one person in any one accident.
  • $50,000 for bodily injury or death of two or more persons in any one accident.
  • $15,000 for property damage in any one accident.
These figures represent the state's minimum amounts. The option, depending on your vehicle situation, always exists for higher amounts of liability insurance protection. In addition, you also have the option for one or more of the following coverage plans:

Carry Proof of TN Auto Insurance

You must, when driving, always carry proof of car insurance. Your insurance company should provide you with a wallet-size identification card, displaying all pertinent information including your policy's expiration date.

Failing to carry proof of insurance is a Class C misdemeanor with fines of up to $100. Upon conviction your drivers license will be suspended.
