Required Auto Insurance in Wyoming

Minimum auto insurance levels in the state are as follows:

  • $25,000 for injury to one person.
  • $50,000 for injury to two or more people.
  • $20,000 for property damage resulting for an auto accident.

Proof of Auto Liability Insurance in Wyoming

Not only must you keep car insurance on your motor vehicle in WY, you must also carry proof of insurance on you whenever you drive your auto in the state. Acceptable documents that prove you have auto insurance are:

  • A copy of your actual insurance policy.
  • A Certificate of Deposit worth at least $25,000 (obtained through the WY State Treasurer).

Reporting Auto Accidents in Wyoming

Contact the Wyoming Department of Transportation to get a copy of Form SR-21. This form must be completed if you get in an accident in WY and the cost of the damages reach or exceed $1,000. If you do not report the accident you could have your license suspended.

It cost $50 to reinstate your license and registration in WY. You will also be required to show proof of insurance to the WY Department of Transportation for three years.
