Should I buy more liability insurance than the state minimum?
The purpose of liability insurance is to cover the cost of damages done to other people’s property and the injuries suffered by other people in the case of an accident. In other words, the more liability coverage you have, the more protected you are from a potential lawsuit, and having to pay for expenses out of pocket.
Minimum State Requirements for Liability Insurance
Every state has a minimum requirement for liability auto insurance. For example, the state of California requires the following:- $5,000 property damage coverage.
- $15,000 coverage per injuries to one person.
- $30,000 coverage per injuries to additional people.
