What should I do if the court orders me to carry a SR 22?
If you're required by the court to carry SR 22 you'll need to begin contacting insurance companies. Most reputable car insurance companies offer SR22 insurance. Though each case is different, in most instances you'll probably be required to file carry an SR 22 form for three years. Some extreme cases, such as repeat DUI offenders or driving without insurance, may result in a five-year SR22 mandate.
Before buying, take the time to shop around for the best rate just as you would for a regular auto insurance policy. The more insurance rates you compare, the better your chances of finding a decent quote. Don't, however, expect to find the same rate as a regular car insurance policy. Because an SR 22 designates you as a high-risk driver, SR22 insurance premiums are considerably higher.
In most cases, the insurance provider will notify your DMV and/or court with SR 22 verification. Don't assume, however. Always check to make sure proof has been submitted.

Carry Proof of Insurance to Avoid License Suspension
If you allow your SR 22 to lapse, your auto insurance provider is required, by law, to notify either the court or your local DMV. You then face an automatically suspended license or car registration. You then may face even higher SR22 insurance premiums and be required to start your three-year SR22 mandate from the beginning again, on top of paying drivers license or car registration reinstatement fees.Post Comment for "What should I do if the court orders me to carry a SR 22?"
