Is there a difference between a salvage and a rebuilt title?
Yes. A salvage title means that the car has been totaled beyond what the insurance is willing to repair. A salvage car is not necessarily drivable. A rebuilt title means that a salvage car has been repaired to drivability, or rebuilt.
So you don’t unknowingly buy a salvage car, it’s smart to get the VIN of the car you’re considering buying and ordering a Vehicle History Report. This report will tell you if the car title is salvage, rebuilt, or clean. The report also lists the major accidents the car has been in; these are reported by insurance companies, law enforcement, and body repair shops.
