Practice taking many questions on a CDL practice test. The more questions it has, the better. States provide free CDL practice tests, but some, as in the case of California, are limited to 10 or so questions.

To get more practice for the real exam, think about purchasing a practice test kit. These practice tests, which also mimic the real CDL test, give you many questions so you can determine whether or not you have a shot at passing the exam. If you fail a test with a hundred questions on it, you will know that you need to go back and read the manual. If you know most of the answers on the test, chances are good that you will also pass the real thing.

Whatever you do, don't just walk into the DMV and take the CDL cold without even studying the manual. It's impossible to instinctively know all the CDL rules of the road, so some preparation is essential to prevent failure.
