Most of the time you still have to pay various court fees, even if you complete a defensive driving or traffic school course and get your traffic ticket dismissed.

For example, in Florida you still have to pay an “election fee” to the Clerk of Court where you got the ticket. In California, you’ll have to pay an Administration Fee plus something called “violation bail” to the court. This may vary depending on the county, however.

Other states, such as Kentucky, require the court to refer you to a defensive driving school or an approved traffic school as a result of a traffic or speeding ticket.  You’ll have to pay the court fees first in these cases, too.

You may want to call the Court Clerk for the city or county court and ask them directly if you still have to pay court fees even if you complete an approved traffic school course.
