How do I pick the best online traffic school?
When trying to pick the best online traffic school, consider the following:
- Be certain the defensive driving school is approved by your court and/or state. This is very important. Enrolling in an unauthorized online traffic school will accomplish nothing other than wasting your time and money. Most state DMV Web sites provide a list of approved schools. If you can't find a list (Pennsylvania's DMV, for instance, does not offer this information), try contacting your court clerk for help.
- Make sure the traffic school provides detailed information, fully explaining what its course or courses entail. If you're required to take a defensive driving class for a traffic ticket or a speeding ticket, you don't want to discover after the fact that you unknowingly enrolled in a class for mature drivers.
- Find, in writing, the exact costs. Look for hidden charges. For example, some courses, upon completion, will suddenly charge you exorbitant certificate fees. Or even have the audacity to impose a steep price for e-mailing your certificate to the DMV or the Clerk of Courts. The better online course companies will be upfront about all charges.
