The Improv Traffic School personifies the word "edutainment." It both educates and entertains with the intent of taking the drudgery out of having to spend a Saturday afternoon listening to someone lecture you on the importance of driving under control. The school began over 20 years ago in Los Angeles in conjunction with Bud Friedman's famous Improv Comedy Club.

This online traffic school alternative features a defensive driving curriculum that is written and taught by professional and wannabe comedians. The demand for this program can be measured in the fact that almost a third of all traffic schools in Los Angeles county now have a comedic bent. Its popularity has prompted other comedians to blueprint the idea and form their own comedy driving schools in San Francisco, Texas and Florida.

If you're looking to get a speeding ticket or a traffic ticket of any kind dismissed, be sure your state or court recognizes the Improv Traffic School as a legitimate defensive driving school. Otherwise, you'll be required to take the course again from a traffic school that's state- or court-approved. Contact your DMV or court for verification. Most, not all, DMV Web site's provide a comprehensive list of approved traffic schools.

Keep your comedic expectations tempered if you enroll in this course. You won't be receiving driving safety tips from Robin Williams or Jon Stewart. Most of the instructors are either beginner comedians or comics who have reached a crossroad in their stage careers.
