The online traffic school in which you're enrolled in should instruct you on how to provide identity verification. In most instances this is a court decision. All online driving schools are well versed on how to handle such requests, which may include a proctored final exam, a notarized final exam answer sheet or online ID verification through a limited credit check.

Keep in mind that all options require an additional fee, usually in the $10 to $15 price range. They may also take some effort by you. For instance, a notarized final exam sheet will require taking the test in the presence of a notary public.

If your intent is to have a traffic ticket dismissed or points on a speeding ticket reduced, be sure, before taking the test, the defensive driving course meets court or state approval. Only certificates from recognized traffic schools will be accepted. For help on this, visit your state's DMV Web site. Most provide a list of approved courses. If you cannot find a list (Pennsylvania's PennDOT, for example does not offer this information), try contacting your sentencing court.
