Not only does each insurance provider set its own regulations regarding the benefits of taking a defensive driving course, but each one also determines whether it will accept a completion certificate from an online traffic school.  

The only way to find out for sure is to contact your car insurance provider and ask about any policy discounts you can get for attending a class and whether an online defensive driving class is acceptable. Also remember to ask for a list of approved courses; your insurance company might approve courses your state doesn’t, and vice versa.

NOTE: There’s a slim possibility you might also have to consider your state’s regulations. If you’re a driver in North Carolina, for example, you can attend traffic school to lower points you incurred from a traffic ticket such as a speeding ticket, but you can’t attend to receive an insurance discount.
