If I hold a CDL can I take an online driver improvement course to reduce points on my driving record?
An online traffic school has no say in this matter. It's your state or court that makes the decision. But because commercial drivers are held to higher standards than regular drivers, most states do not allow points to be dropped from a driving record for enrolling in an online driver improvement course.
Or, if it is allowed, you'll find that only the court can decide whether you enroll in a defensive driving course or not. If you are assigned to traffic school and you complete the course as instructed, there's a chance that the points for a traffic ticket or a speeding ticket will not be added to your driving record. Kentucky, for example, will drop the points but will still post the conviction.
You're always welcome, of course, to enroll in a defensive driving class for your own reasons. But it will have no bearing on your driving record status.
